After being disgraced by a personal scandal, film director Susumu Kobayashi (35) is dismissed from his company and returns to his hometown in Gunma, where he reunites with his elderly father, Hideo (62), who now lives alone.

Hideo takes pride in the fact that his son is a film director. Yet in his younger years, he neglected his family, and Susumu grew up without receiving his father’s affection. Aware of this past, Hideo sees Susumu’s return as a chance to repair their fractured relationship. He decides to fully cover the penalty fees Susumu faces.

And in doing so, he tells a lie.
